What You'll Do
The Associate Director, Digital Fundraising is a key member of the Digital Fundraising team in the Michigan Medicine Development office. This team is focused on developing a robust digital peer-to-peer, crowdfunding, student philanthropy, and corporate engagement program. Under the supervision of the Director, the Associate Director contributes to the development and execution of digital fundraising programs and communications strategies with a primary focus on driving donor acquisition and prospect engagement via digital platforms including social media, social communities, student philanthropy, corporate cause marketing partnerships, and crowdfunding programs. This individual will work in a highly collaborative manner with many different facets of the organization to advance the overall fundraising goals of the University of Michigan.
Responsibilities*
- Under the guidance of the Director, Digital Fundraising, contributes to and, when appropriate, leads the development, implementation, and execution of comprehensive fundraising, communications, and social media campaigns
- Partners with colleagues in the Michigan Medicine Department of Communication and Office of University Development to develop a comprehensive strategy for peer-to-peer/crowdfunding at Michigan Medicine that is scalable and sustainable
- Seeks ways to build donor revenue and acquisition through online strategies and tactics
- Seeks opportunities to maximize donor engagement through social conversations and stewardship
- Works closely with the Michigan Medicine Development Communications team and Michigan Medicine Department of Communication to review and ensure creative and branding linkage
- Leads relationship management with student groups and schools to help maximize fundraising opportunities, i.e., Dance Marathon, PIKE Rivalry Run, Go Blue Wear Pink, Hartland Consolidated Schools, Wyandotte Roosevelt High School, Clague Middle School, Little VictorThon K-12 program, etc.
- Provides supervision, mentorship, and professional development to Digital Fundraising Coordinator position (if applicable), any departmental interns, and to volunteer fundraisers
- Develops and executes social media strategy and assets to appropriately promote and celebrate peer-to-peer, crowdfunding, and corporate campaigns
- Oversees and supports volunteers engaged in digital peer-to-peer fundraising activities
- Manages, and when appropriate, leads the logistics of crowdfunding/peer-to-peer programs including the development of timelines, processes, and deliverables for corporate cause marketing partnerships
- Utilizes data to assess and review campaign effectiveness in an effort to develop a best-in-class digital fundraising program
- Works closely with other professionals across the Michigan Medicine development team, including gift officers, communications staff, gift handling and finance staff, annual giving staff, stewardship officers, corporate/foundation relations staff, and event planners to achieve program objectives
- Provides consistent, timely reporting on internal key performance indicators for digital fundraising campaigns
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree
- At least 6 of experience in development, communications, or a related field
- Ability to meet multiple project deadlines, and deadlines within the writing/production process
- Must be a self-motivated, highly dependable independent worker with the ability to efficiently meet tight deadlines
- Demonstrated creative thinker
- Strong visual aesthetic and ability to create online creative assets
- Careful attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and project management skills
- Strong commitment to philanthropy at Michigan Medicine
- Discretion and the ability to interact with top-tier donors and high-profile volunteers while maintaining a high level of confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external customers
- In-depth familiarity with different social media channels and digital fundraising platforms, and the ability to build effective tactics and create appropriate content/voice for each digital, social, and mobile platform
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience working in an academic health system or hospital development office
- Experience in content creation for and management of professional social media channels
- Experience executing digital fundraising campaigns and strong familiarity with using third-party digital fundraising platforms.
Work Locations
The onsite location for this position is an office suite at the 777 Building. This provides free, on-site parking for staff.
This position is a flexible, hybrid position. Candidates will need to live in a commutable distance to the office with the expectation to be in the office as needed. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on business needs.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
