Responsibilities*
As a Temporary Medical Assistant in the Cardiovascular Center you will provide direct patient care, assist with clinical procedures and coordinate patient flow in several sub-specialty clinics. In this role you will be responsible for:
- Performing patient intake and rooming duties in the clinic.
- Documenting health information in the electronic medical record.
- Maintaining proficiency and competency in performing tasks such as vital signs, 12 lead EKG's, dressing changes, and immunizations.
- Coordinating patient flow, as assigned, throughout the clinic.
- Performing various clinically-related duties delegated by the medical and nursing staff.
- Providing routine instructions to patients regarding procedures, treatments, and follow-up care instructions as delegated by the clinical medical and nursing staff.
- Problem-solving patient and family care issues.
Required Qualifications*
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of experience.
- BLS within 3-months of assignment.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
- Communicates effectively.
- Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
Desired Qualifications*
- Certification as a Medical Assistant.
- Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.
- Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 10 - 30 hours per week.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on you upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
