Job Summary
Choir Accompanist/Collaborative Pianist to provide professional piano accompaniment for rehearsals, performances, and other choir-related activities. Work closely with choir director and members to enhance the musical quality of the ensemble, contributing to a supportive and engaging environment for singers of all levels.
This position requires availability for weekly rehearsals, occasional weekend or evening performances, and additional events as scheduled by the Choir Director.
Responsibilities*
- Provide piano accompaniment during weekly choir rehearsals, sectional rehearsals, and warm-ups.
- Accompany the choir during concerts, services, recitals, and other public events.
- Collaborate with soloists, instrumentalists, and small ensembles as required.
- Prepare and practice all assigned music thoroughly in advance of rehearsals and performances.
- Work closely with the choir director to align on artistic vision, rehearsal strategies, and performance goals.
Required Qualifications*
- Proficiency in piano performance, including sight-reading and the ability to play a wide range of musical styles.
- Experience accompanying choral groups, vocal ensembles, or similar settings.
- Familiarity with vocal techniques and choral dynamics.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to a flexible rehearsal and performance schedule.
Desired Qualifications*
- Degree(s) in Music, Piano Performance, or a related field.
- Experience working with singers of diverse skill levels.
Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
