Job Summary

The Duke Division of Cardiology, Section of Electrophysiology is recruiting a Full Time Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to join a growing faculty and staff in the care and management of adult patients with cardiac arrhythmias, with portion of clinical practice dedicated to cardiovascular genetics patients, in the outpatient setting at our Arringdon and Duke Clinic location. The APP will work in collaboration with physicians and advanced practice providers, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services.

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat: Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in patient's record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients. Prescribe medications within scope of practice
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient
  • Review laboratory data and diagnostic testing, communicate and interpret results to patients
  • Perform medical decision-making- create a plan of care for the patient
  • Collaborate with Heart Center Communications or Duke Raleigh Cardiology to triage urgent calls
  • Collaborate with other NP/PAs to ensure clinic and telephone coverage
  • Pacemaker and defibrillator interrogation, evaluation and appropriate programming with appropriate documentation
  • Antiarrhythmic drug monitoring
  • Pre and post procedure in office education and care
  • Bill for services rendered
  • Develop and follow a collaborative practice agreement with assigned Supervising Physician

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

  • ACLS required prior to or within 3 months of employment.
  • BLS required.
  • DEA licensure required.

License

  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. BLS required.

Experience

  • 1+ years of Cardiology APP experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with cardiovascular genetics patients preferred but not required
  • Experience caring for patients with patients with complex cardiac arrhythmias including management of pacemakers and defibrillators.
