Purpose Statement
TheFryer Operatorwill accomplish the preparation of frozen food products made on assigned production lines at the Brunswick facility by performing certain tasks involved in operating the fryer that pre-fries the product to meet quality specifications and production needs. Contributes to the profitability of the Company by performing tasks in a safe, efficient, quality-conscious, and cost-conscious manner and by working in a cooperative manner with his/her Team Leader and co-workers. This is a 1st Shiftposition.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
Building on the knowledge of processing learned in the Brunswick Plant or at another facility, learns how to operate the fryers and associated conveyors to cook product to meet quality specifications and production needs. Performs specific tasks associated with this process that must be done for all machines to which he/she is assigned. This includes, but is not limited to:
- setting up all equipment so that it will run properly
- assisting maintenance mechanics with preventive maintenance of machinery by reporting any problems with operation or suspected maintenance needs; assists with greasing bearings and performing other maintenance as mechanic requests such as PMs on wire belts
- performing daily safety checks on the fryers, filters, valves
- knowing and having the right specifications for the product being run on the line
- filling fryers with correct mix of fresh and used oil; technician must know valves to use to do this properly
- safely lighting fryers and bring oil up to the correct temperature
- periodically checking oil temperatures and level, free fatty acid level, belt speeds to assure levels are correct
- periodically checking the finished product to make sure that product is reaching the right color; notifies Production Team Leader immediately of any problems, and works with QA Auditor and Group Leader to correct problems
- periodically checking for excess crumb buildup and acting to remove crumbs
- changing filters using correct procedure for that filter
- cleaning around fryers during the work shift as required
- taking steps to keep oil off the floor
- placing oil pads on spills; using a low-pressure water hose to wash down any oil that does get on floor to cut down on slips and falls, consistent with plant wastewater and sanitation policies
- using a rubber squeegee to push water off the floor toward and down floor drains
- pushing carts of waste fryer crumbs from fryer room to centrifuge and properly disposing
- preparing all paperwork required for quality and production records (this requires being able to read oil levels in tanks, oil transfer system, and inventory indicators)
- operating crumb centrifuge as part of the crumb handling process
- assisting other fryer operators as requested by Team Leader or as needs dictate *
- knowing how to receive a new oil truck (this includes hook-up, discharge, and associated paperwork)
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1 to 2 Years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to follow directions
- Punctual and reliable in their work attendance
- Adhere to all safety and quality policies and practices
- Ability to work as a team player
- Ability to perform basic math functions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Bilingual a plus
