SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and guidance of a Clinical Pharmacist, performs a wide range of routine and complex administrative duties in support of clinical operations. Assumes a lead role among clinical support staff in the management and processing of prescription renewal requests for a designated clinical department or practice site. This position is to be used in the Clinical Operations when the volume of prescription renewals warrants a dedicated role.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit required. Certification from of an approved pharmacy technician program, or equivalent institutional/retail pharmacy experience with appropriate registration as required by Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration, as well as National Pharmacy Training Certification strongly preferred. Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in medical assisting or graduate of certificate program preferred with commensurate pharmacy experience and pharmacy knowledge may be substituted for pharmacy certification
EXPERIENCE
Skills and experience typically acquired through at least three years of institutional/retail pharmacy experience or a clinical support function that is responsible for prescription renewal coordination. Requires knowledge of medication abbreviation and symbols as well as common drug dosage calculations. Requires knowledge of and previous experience implementing laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice and patient confidentiality.
SKILLS
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills required. Must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills as well as problem-solving abilities. Strong computer skills required using Microsoft systems and previous electronic medical record experience strongly preferred.
