PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for creating new designs and following them from prototype through production release
- Generate robust and innovative designs that are optimized with regards to manufacturability, weight, and cost
- Regularly generating vehicle general packaging studies
- Complete Chassis component and electrical harness designs (CAD), packages, platform architecture studies, steering and suspension kinematics studies
- Designing Powertrain integration/packaging solutions
- Creating basic tolerance stack-ups
- Regularly review designs for issues and develop feasible solutions to resolve problems as before or as they occur
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with various stakeholders by communicating project status, issues and next steps
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- BSME or equivalent design experience
- 5 years’ experience in 3D CAD modeling
- 10 years’ experience in component design and packaging
- 5 years’ experience with CREO, parametric modeling and detailing
- CREO Parametric 5.0 or newer, CREO 9 or newer preferred
- CREO Piping & Cabling Design
- Having knowledge of multiple CAD systems is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Windchill PLM
- Familiarity with Teamcenter PLM
- Familiarity with Teamcenter Visualization
- Working knowledge of GD&T and descriptive geometry
- Familiarity with military specifications and standards
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office software
- Electrical Harness/Component design and packaging experience
- Working knowledge in the creation of electrical harness detail drawings
- Ability to perform CAD Simulations
- Human Factors Design
- Ability to apply SAE standards regarding H-Point, AHP, seat belt anchorage zones, eye ellipse, obscuration studies, etc.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
- Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner, including regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
- Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Physical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. The Employee must be able to perform job functions in an environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noises
- Teamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace
- Listening Skills: This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately
- Ability to follow instructions: Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary; this position should be able to follow instructions competently
- Methodical approach: Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line
- Concentration: This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is important
