The Senior Director, Global Security will lead the development and implementation of an effective and efficient physical security strategy across the company to support Alkermes’s strategic objectives. Reporting to the Vice President, Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHSS), the role-holder will oversee a portfolio of security services and systems in multiple geographic areas where Alkermes conducts business. They will act as the most senior subject matter expert on physical security for both internal/ external business partners and will oversee a network of direct reports and security-focused vendors, developing a high performing PSP team that covers the span of business activities.
The Head of Security (PSP) will enhance physical security integrity across the company and implement processes that enable the rapid identification and mitigation of risks. The Head of Security (PSP) will advise and support company senior leadership. They will ensure that the PSP strategy is complementary to company culture and values, and will ensure that security policies are fully implemented across the business. They will integrate the PSP with other business systems, thus helping to protect the workforce while at work or travelling for work, while also protecting company assets. They will provide timely, concise information regarding identified PSP risks, mitigations and the assess/ advise efficacy of ongoing control measures. Demonstrate exceptional risk-based judgment and an executive presence. They will show a natural ability to make informed, timely and appropriate decisions, involving and collaborating with key stakeholders across the business. They will be adept at communicating with a diverse audience and will be skilled at building working relationships based on high levels of mutual trust. The successful candidate will have a solid background of leading physical security programs at a corporate level and will have a proven track record in implementing systems that protect assets across a global organization. Strong managerial and strategic planning skills are essential, together with high degrees of business acumen.
Responsibilities
- Representing PSP on the EHSS leadership team and participating on the IT information security steering team.
- Implementing a corporate PSP structure that business-integrates security capabilities, including setting up/ leading cross-functional, cross-site security teams to focus on specific risks.
- Continually assessing and improving enterprise PSP capability, including processes, resources and risk controls, taking into account the company’s assets and span of business operations.
- Formulating a vision for corporate PSP; developing a rolling five-year strategic plan to enable prioritized focus on current and emerging risks.
- Building a PSP risk management system that enables the rapid diagnosis of current and emerging security risks; implementing processes that drive continuous improvement and the timely mitigation of identified risks.
- Positively influencing corporate security culture: developing policies, training and awareness materials to create a collective awareness and understanding of PSP risks and controls, while emphasizing the role every employee, visitor and contractor has in maintaining the physical security integrity of Alkermes.
- Taking a key role during security incident investigations, ensuring that appropriate response measures are implemented to help prevent re-occurrence.
- Strengthening corporate emergency and crisis management preparedness; developing/ implementing procedures and conducting regular drills/ exercises to maintain a continuous state of emergency readiness.
- Developing strong working relationship with relevant federal, national and local law enforcement agencies.
- Collaborating with the IT information security team to a) integrate risk-intelligence and incident escalation protocols, b) enhance procedures to protect physical forms of information/ IP.
- Supporting the external operations/supply chain team regarding the security of supply to patients; helping to enhance procedures to protect Alkermes’s supply chain
- Partnering with site operations/ facilities teams and IT to develop a technology road map for globally integrated technical PSP systems.
- Partnering with key stakeholders such as corporate affairs and finance to implement procedures and systems that optimize the duty of care for employees while travelling and/ or attending off-site events (conferences, etc.).
- Building a suite of leading and lagging key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure and demonstrate continual improvement of the PSP system; preparing management reports as appropriate.
Qualifications
- University degree in a relevant field (Business, Engineering, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Government Affairs, International Relations, Management Information Systems, or related Security field).
- Post graduate qualification, MBA or MS in relevant field is desirable.
- Continuing education together with membership and participation in relevant associations.
- At least 15 years’ experience of PSP management, with increasing levels of responsibility within a multinational organization, including oversight of relevant security areas e.g. physical and workforce protection and business continuity.
- At least 15 years leading multi-disciplinary teams and directly managing people, including employees, contractors and third-party service providers.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proven track record of building an efficient, effective security system – successfully integrating the same within an existing company’s culture and systems.
- Extensive knowledge of physical security standards, processes and compliance requirements.
- Experience with oversight of global security operations centers (GSOC).
- Sound understanding of laws and regulations applicable to the Bio-Pharma industry, including those regarding
