NorthStar is seeking a strategic and proactive Senior Human Resources Business Partner to join our growing team. This role will be a key partner to all our Operations leaders and will provide expert guidance on employee relations issues, coaching managers, and helping build scalable processes that align with our company's mission and values. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity and can balance tactical case management with big-picture thinking that drives consistency and fairness across the organization. This person will play a pivotal role in shaping the organizational culture and fostering a high-performance work environment while also acting as an employee champion and change agent.

What You'll Do:

  • Shape and deliver our human resources strategy within Operations; manage and refine our approach to positive employee relations/labor relations, ensuring fairness, consistency, and efficiency in all processes
  • Lead the design and execution of programs and initiatives to enhance employee engagement, retention and growth
  • Navigate workplace matters with empathy and effectiveness; advise and support managers and team members through a wide variety of complex situations in consultation with legal and compliance; remain balanced and objective to ensure that all voices and perspectives are heard
  • Provide guidance and coaching to operational leaders regarding policy interpretation, employee development, and employee/labor relations matters; this includes providing guidance on the preparation and delivery of performance improvement and corrective action documentation across the organization as well as grievance avoidance and administration in our unionized facility
  • Serve as support to front-line employees by demonstrating visible leadership in the operations facilities and by advocating on employees' behalf
  • Collaborate with leaders to assess current and future talent needs. Develop workforce planning strategies to ensure the organization has the right talent in place to meet its long-term objectives; this includes identifying and addressing skill gaps, succession planning, and developing talent pipelines with external partners
  • Use observations from visible leadership in the Operations facilities and data analytics to recognize and address trends and uncover patterns, identify root causes, and proactively recommend improvements to Operations leadership that mitigate issues/risks and enhance the employee experience
  • Support key initiatives and special projects; contribute to company-wide programs that drive engagement, leadership effectiveness, and continuous process improvement; this includes annual processes such as performance management, goal setting, calibration, merit planning, and talent reviews
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, business leaders, and HR colleagues to drive HR initiatives, align with organizational goals, and foster a culture of teamwork and shared success
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong HR acumen and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Proven experience in an HR generalist, employee relations, or people business partner role in a fast-growth environment
  • Demonstrated experience resolving complex employee relations cases in a fair and consistent way, including investigations, progressive discipline, performance management, and conflicts
  • Exceptional coaching and communication skills with the ability to guide managers through difficult conversations with clarity, confidence, and empathy
  • Strong diagnostic skills with the ability to quickly spot trends, assess risk, and develop proactive solutions to address recurring employee relations challenges
  • Superior collaboration skills and proven success working with others across an organization to deliver results
  • Strong bias for action with ability to work with urgency, prioritize effectively, and remain resilient in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Commitment to fostering a workplace that is fair, inclusive, and supportive for all employees

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Human Resources, Organization Design/Development, Labor/Industrial relations, Industrial/Organizational Psychology or a related field.
  • 7+ years of broad HR experience
  • Experience providing counsel and feedback to operational leaders at all levels of the organization with diplomacy and tact
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office products; advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and SAP preferred.
  • Experience with human capital analytics preferred, with the ability to extract data from information sources and use it for analysis of trends and issues impacting the business, as well as to make recommendations to operational leaders
